Have been to Bhuwaneshwar,Odisha in February end for a close friends marriage. After getting done with all the functions,I went to explore the near places and this log is all about it.Since it wasn't a bike expedition,I dont have much to write about. So this one will be a Photolog ;)
Konark Temple -Konark is a combination of two word, Kona means 'Angle' and word Arka means 'Sun'.The meaning of these words is in reference to the temple which is dedicated to the Sun god Surya.
It is an 13th century Sun Temple constructed from oxidized and weathered ferruginous sandstone by King Narasimhadeva I (1238-1250 CE) of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. The temple is an example of Orissan architecture of Ganga dynasty.
At Chandrabhaga beach, which is close to Konark Sun Temple
Puri -This place is famous for the Jagannath Temple, which is one of the Char Dham pilgrimages that a Hindu is expected to make in one's lifetime. The name Jagannath (Lord of the Universe) is a combination of the Sanskrit words Jagat (Universe) and Nath (Lord of).Since the Camera and Electronic items were totally banned in the Premises,we left all the stuff in the Cab in which we travelled. It saved us from standing in the long queues
We went in for Darshan and after Darshan we went to the nearby beach for some chilling
Bhuwaneshwar - After the functions got over we went for some City exploration,I missed going to Nandankanan though.
Udayagiri and Khandagiri - Once i bid adieu to my friend,I had plenty of time left between for boarding into flight. So i went to these places.Udayagiri and Khandagiri are basically two hills situated next to each other. These hills contains partly natural and partly artificial caves of archaeological, historical and religious importance. It is believed that most of these caves were carved out as residential blocks for Jain monks during the reign of King Kharavela. Udayagiri means "Sunrise Hill" and has 18 caves while Khandagiri has 15 caves.
Lingraj Temple - Visited this on the way to Airport.Camera and other electronic equipment were not allowed here as well. This is the oldest temple in Bhuwaneshwar and a must visit place, when in town.
Somewhere close to Lingraj temple in Bhuwaneshwar

Lingraj temple can be seen in the reflection.
Cheers
Biru
